IPTV TV Guide (EPG) Missing or Wrong? How to Fix It
A blank or wrong TV guide almost always comes down to one of six causes. Here is how to find yours and fix it in TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro and other apps, including the time zone trap for viewers outside Eastern time.

An IPTV EPG that is not working usually has a simple cause, and most fixes take less than five minutes. Either the guide was never loaded, the link is wrong, it stopped refreshing, the time zone is off, the channel IDs do not match, or old data is stuck in the app. Work through the checks below in order. The first one solves the problem for a lot of people.
You will find what the TV guide actually is and a table that matches each symptom to its cause. After that come step-by-step fixes for TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro, and a section on guide times for viewers in Pacific, Mountain, Central and Atlantic time.
What is the EPG, and where does it come from?
The EPG (electronic program guide) is the grid that shows what is on each channel now and next. In IPTV, it arrives as a separate download from the video, which is why a channel can play perfectly while its guide stays empty. The electronic program guide article on Wikipedia covers the history if you want the background.
Behind the scenes, providers publish the guide as an XMLTV file. Each entry holds a channel ID, a program title, a description, and start and end times with a time zone offset. Your app downloads that file, then pairs every channel in your list with the guide entry that has the same ID. If the pairing works, you see show names. If it fails, you see "No information" or a blank row.
With an Xtream Codes login, most apps fetch the guide automatically. With an M3U playlist, you often need to paste a separate EPG link. If you are unsure which login you use, our guide to M3U playlists and Xtream Codes logins explains the difference.
Why is my IPTV guide missing or wrong?
An IPTV guide is usually missing or wrong for one of six reasons. The guide was never loaded, the EPG link is wrong or old, or the app refreshes it too rarely. It can also be a time zone that is off, channel IDs that do not match, or old data stuck in the cache. The symptom usually points straight to the cause.
Find the line that matches what you see:
| What you see | Likely cause | Try this first |
|---|---|---|
| The whole guide is blank | The EPG was never loaded, or the link is missing | Add or update the EPG in the app |
| "No information" on some channels only | Channel ID mismatch, or no guide exists for them | Update the EPG, then report the channels |
| Every show is off by the same 1 to 4 hours | Wrong time zone on the device, or a wrong time shift | Fix the device time zone, set time shift to 0 |
| Off by exactly 1 hour since the clocks changed | A manual time shift left over from before | Set time shift back to 0 |
| Guide stops after a day, or shows old programs | The guide is not refreshing | Update now and turn on automatic updates |
| A channel shows another channel's shows | The wrong guide entry is linked to it | Report it to support with the channel name |
1. The guide was never loaded
Many apps load the channel list first and the guide later. If you started watching right after logging in, the guide may still be downloading, or the download stopped when you closed the app. Give it a fresh update and wait two or three minutes without switching channels.
2. The EPG link is wrong or old
An M3U login needs the exact EPG link your provider sent. One wrong character, a missing http://, or an old link from a previous account means no guide. Copy it again from your welcome email instead of typing it from memory.
3. The refresh interval is too long
Guide files usually cover a few days ahead. If the app only updates once a week, the guide runs dry. A daily automatic update keeps it full.
4. The time zone or offset is wrong
XMLTV times carry their own offset, and the app converts them to your device's clock. If the device is set to the wrong time zone, every show moves by the same number of hours. Adding a manual time shift on top of a wrong device setting makes things worse, especially after daylight saving time changes.
5. Channel IDs do not match
When a provider renames a channel or swaps a stream, the guide ID can stop matching. This affects a handful of channels, not the whole guide, and it is fixed on the provider's side.
6. Old data is stuck in the cache
Apps keep a saved copy of the guide so it opens quickly. Sometimes that copy gets stuck and new data never replaces it. Clearing the app cache, or removing and re-adding the guide source, forces a clean download.
How do you fix the TV guide in TiviMate?
In TiviMate, go to Settings, then EPG, and run Update EPG; that alone fixes most blank guides. If it does not, work through these steps in order. Menu names move a little between TiviMate versions, so if a label differs, look in Settings, EPG, or in your playlist's own settings.
- Check the guide source. Open Settings, then EPG. With an Xtream Codes login, the guide source is usually added for you. With an M3U playlist, choose the option to add an EPG source and paste the XMLTV link from your welcome email.
- Update the guide. Select Update EPG and wait. On an older Fire TV Stick, a large guide can take three minutes or more.
- Set the update interval. In the same EPG menu, set automatic updates to once a day, and keep the option to update when the app starts.
- Check the time shift. Open the guide source and look for EPG time shift. It should be 0 when your device's time zone is correct.
- Clear old data. If the guide still shows old programs, remove the EPG source and add it again, or go to your device's Settings, Applications, TiviMate and choose Clear cache. Do not choose Clear data unless you are ready to log in again.
- Restart. Close TiviMate completely, unplug the device for 30 seconds, and open the app again.

How do you fix the TV guide in IPTV Smarters Pro?
In IPTV Smarters Pro, the guide loads from your Xtream Codes login, so refreshing it and checking the time settings fixes most problems. On Apple devices, the same app is usually listed as Smarters Player Lite, and the menus are close to identical.
- Let the first load finish. Right after logging in, the app may show an Install EPG or Download EPG message. Let it reach 100% before you start browsing.
- Refresh the guide. Use the refresh button on the home screen, or the EPG refresh option in Settings on some versions, and wait for it to complete.
- Check EPG Timeshift. In Settings, find EPG Timeshift and set it to 0 if your device time zone is correct.
- Turn on automatic updates. Look for Automation in Settings and set the guide to update every day.
- Prefer Xtream over M3U. M3U logins in Smarters often show little or no guide. If you used the playlist link, add your account again with the Xtream Codes option.
- Start fresh. Still stuck? Log out, delete the profile from the user list, and add it again. That clears the saved guide along with it.
Step-by-step screens are in our IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide. App menus change with updates; if a button name above does not match your screen, a quick web search for your app version and "EPG" usually shows the new location.
What about MAG, Formuler and Smart TV apps?
On MAG boxes, the guide comes through the portal, so a reboot and five minutes of patience usually brings it back. On Formuler boxes with MYTVOnline 3, open the content source settings and refresh the guide there. Smart TV players that ask you to load your playlist on their website often need the playlist reloaded on that site before the guide appears.
How do you fix guide times in Pacific, Mountain, Central or Atlantic time?
Set the device to your real time zone and leave the app's time shift at 0. Only use time shift if the whole guide is still off by the same number of hours. Very often, a wrong guide in Western Canada comes from a device that thinks it is in Toronto. That usually happens because it was set up with the wrong region or the automatic time zone is turned off.
To check, open your device's settings (on Fire TV: Settings, Preferences, Time Zone; on Android TV and Google TV: Settings, System, Date and time), pick your zone, restart the IPTV app and update the guide. If the guide is still off, use this table as a starting point for the time shift. Apps use different signs, so try the minus value first and switch to plus if it gets worse.
| Where you live | Time zone | Difference from Eastern | Time shift to try (only if needed) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most of British Columbia | Pacific | 3 hours behind | -3 |
| Alberta, NWT, parts of BC | Mountain | 2 hours behind | -2 |
| Manitoba, northwestern Ontario | Central | 1 hour behind | -1 |
| Saskatchewan | Central, no clock change | 2 hours behind in summer, 1 in winter | Fix the device time zone instead |
| Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI | Atlantic | 1 hour ahead | +1 |
| Newfoundland | Newfoundland | 1.5 hours ahead | Fix the device time zone instead |
Saskatchewan and Yukon do not change their clocks, and Newfoundland sits on a half-hour offset that many apps cannot match with a time shift. In those places, choosing the right time zone on the device is the only reliable fix. The National Research Council's time zone page lists each province's rules.
East and West feeds
Many Canadian and American channels broadcast an East feed and a West feed, three hours apart. If only some channels look off by three hours while the rest are right, a West feed is probably linked to the East guide, or the other way round. A time shift cannot fix one channel without breaking all the others, so report those channels instead. Many viewers in BC and Alberta like watching East feeds on purpose to see prime-time shows earlier; the guide for those channels will correctly show the earlier local time.
After the clocks change
Clocks go back one hour on the first Sunday of November and forward on the second Sunday of March. If your guide was right yesterday and is off by exactly one hour today, a manual time shift is almost always the reason. Set it back to 0 and let the device's time zone do the work.
When should you contact support about the guide?
Contact support when the guide is still blank after a fresh update, when only some channels are wrong, or when a channel shows another channel's shows. Those problems need a fix on the provider's side. Your device settings cannot repair a broken channel ID.
To get a quick answer, send these details:
- The app and device, for example TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
- Your login type: Xtream Codes, M3U or portal.
- The exact channel names with the problem, and what the guide shows.
- Your province or time zone.
- A photo of the screen, with your login details hidden.

Reader questions
Why does my IPTV channel play but the guide says "No information"?
The video and the guide come from two different sources. The channel plays from the stream, but the guide only appears when the channel's guide ID matches an entry in the EPG file. A missing or changed ID, a channel with no guide data, or a guide that has not loaded yet all show "No information". Update the EPG first; if the same channels stay blank, report them to support.
How often should my IPTV guide update?
Once or twice a day is enough for most homes. Guides usually cover the next few days, so a daily update keeps them full without slowing your app. Updating every hour adds load and rarely helps. In TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro, turn on automatic updates and then forget about it, unless you notice the guide running out after a day or two.
Why is my IPTV guide 3 hours off in British Columbia?
Usually because the device thinks it is in Eastern time. Open the device's date and time settings, choose your real time zone (Pacific for most of BC), restart the IPTV app and update the guide. Leave the app's time shift at 0. If only a few channels are off by 3 hours, they are probably East and West feeds mixed up, which support needs to fix.
Will clearing the app cache delete my IPTV login?
No, clearing the cache only removes temporary files such as old guide data and channel logos. Clearing the app's data or storage is different: it resets the app completely, so your playlist, favourites and settings disappear and you have to log in again. Try the cache first, and keep your welcome email handy before you clear any data.
Does every IPTV channel have a TV guide?
No. Most major news, sports, entertainment and kids channels have guide data, but some small international channels, event channels and 24-hour loops never had a guide published. Those show the channel name with no program details. That is normal and not a fault on your device. Movies and series on demand use descriptions and posters instead of a guide.
