IPTV in Edmonton, answered quickly

IPTV is a practical cable replacement in Edmonton: it runs on the Telus fibre or Rogers cable already wired into most homes, and nobody has to come and install anything. King IPTV gives you 50,000+ live channels and 190,000+ movies and series through a player app on a Smart TV, Fire TV Stick, phone or laptop.

A year on one screen is $78 CAD, about $6.50 a month, paid once by Interac e-Transfer with no contract, which suits students and anyone watching the budget. The list includes French groups for the Bonnie Doon francophone community and a European group with Ukrainian channels. Start with the free 24-hour trial on your own connection.

How do Oilers games reach Edmonton TVs?

Oilers games are split between regional and national broadcasts. Most regular-season games air on a regional sports channel that covers northern Alberta and nearby areas, while Saturday nights, some weeknight games and the playoffs mostly go to national broadcasters (Edmonton Oilers background). Regional games are usually not shown in other regions, which is why a friend in Toronto may see a different game on the same night.

That split matters more than any channel name. King IPTV organizes sports by category, with Canadian sports networks in English and French, American networks and 4K channels where a 4K feed exists. We do not promise a particular game, because rights and schedules move every season. Run your free trial on an Oilers night and confirm the game you want shows up in the guide.

During a long playoff run the whole city watches, and the Ice District overflows. If you would rather stay home, plug the TV into the router with a cable and stop laptop downloads before puck drop. In summer and fall the Elks play at Commonwealth Stadium, and their games air with the CFL's national TV partner.

IPTV on a University of Alberta student budget

The cheapest way to cover a school year is the 12-month plan at $78, which works out to about $6.50 a month. The University of Alberta enrolled more than 45,000 students in 2024-25, and plenty of them share houses in Garneau, Old Strathcona and along the LRT line, where every dollar counts.

Plans that fit common student situations (CAD)
SituationPlan that fitsTotal
One student, September to August12 months, 1 screen$78
September to February6 months, 1 screen$48
Three roommates, each on their own TV or laptop12 months, 3 screens$178, about $59 each
Trying it for one month1 month, 1 screen$18

You do not need a credit card. Payment goes by Interac e-Transfer straight from your bank app, and with no automatic renewal, nothing gets charged once your plan runs out in the spring.

Residence networks are a different matter. Campus Wi-Fi often asks you to register each device, and some networks block streaming sticks entirely. Read your residence's rules first. A laptop usually connects without trouble, and the Windows and Mac setup guide explains which player to install.

Getting through an Edmonton winter indoors

Most Edmonton households watch more TV from November to March, so have the setup ready before the first cold snap. Edmonton is often called the northernmost North American city with more than a million people, and near the winter solstice it gets only about seven and a half hours of daylight. January nights at minus 30 are nothing unusual.

A few changes make the long evenings easier:

  • Get the router out of the furnace room. Many older homes, in neighbourhoods like Bonnie Doon, Highlands and Westmount, keep the modem in the basement beside the furnace. Concrete and ductwork smother the Wi-Fi before it reaches the living room.
  • Lean on the on-demand library. 190,000+ movies and series mean a snowed-in Saturday does not depend on what happens to be airing.
  • Build a favourites list in the player app so the kids can reach their cartoon channels without scrolling through thousands of entries.
  • Think about a second screen if one person watches the game while another wants a movie: two screens for a year cost $128.

A list this long can feel like a lot at first. Support works in English and French every day from 9 a.m. to midnight Eastern, which is 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Edmonton, and can help you set up favourites over Live Chat.

Telus or Rogers: which Edmonton internet suits IPTV?

Either one is fine, so choose on price and reliability at your address. Telus has run fibre through most of Edmonton and its suburbs and brought its fastest fibre speeds to the city in 2022. Rogers, which bought Shaw in 2023, sells internet over the former Shaw network, a mix of fibre and coaxial cable that is also plenty fast for TV.

What you actually need is modest:

Comfortable internet speeds for IPTV at home
At homeSpeed that feels comfortable
One TV in Full HD15 Mbps or more
One 4K TV plus phones40 Mbps or more
Three TVs, mixed HD and 4K75 Mbps or more

If your plan is slower than that, or you share one connection in a big rental house, our internet speed guide for Canadian IPTV explains how to test the line and what to upgrade first.

French TV for Bonnie Doon and Franco-Albertan families

The Full Channels package carries several French groups, and our support team answers in French. Edmonton's French Quarter, the Quartier francophone, sits around Rue Marie-Anne-Gaboury (91 Street) in Bonnie Doon. It is home to La Cité francophone and to Campus Saint-Jean, the University of Alberta's French-language campus and the only francophone post-secondary institution in the province (Campus Saint-Jean).

For francophone and French-immersion households, the useful groups are:

  • Quebec news, variety and téléromans for news, game shows and drama series in French.
  • French Canadian sports (sports en français) for hockey and soccer with French commentary.
  • Cartoons, kids and family, which includes French channels for children in immersion or francophone schools.

Choose Full Channels at checkout, since the English Channels Only package drops all of this. If the setup steps are easier in French, write to us in French in Live Chat and you will get a reply in French. Our page on French channels on IPTV goes into more detail.

Ukrainian and Filipino channels in Edmonton

Look in the Greek, Polish, Ukrainian and more European group for Ukrainian channels, and in Filipino (Tagalog) for Filipino ones. Both communities have deep roots here. Ukrainian settlers began homesteading northeast of Edmonton in the 1890s, and the city has long had one of the largest Ukrainian communities in Canada, with its own churches, bilingual schools and festivals. Many more Ukrainians arrived in Alberta after 2022.

Kyiv is eight or nine hours ahead of Edmonton, depending on the time of year, so a 9 p.m. newscast there airs around noon or 1 p.m. here. Catch-up, on channels that support it, lets you watch it after work instead. The Filipino community has grown quickly too, and Tagalog is among the most common languages in the city after English.

Line-ups for smaller languages change more often than English ones, so check before you commit. Search the channel categories or ask in Live Chat during the trial, and name the channel you want. The IPTV Alberta page and the IPTV Calgary page cover the rest of the province.

Questions

IPTV Edmonton: your questions

Can I watch Oilers games on IPTV in Edmonton?

Oilers games air on Canadian sports channels, some regional and some national, and King IPTV lists Canadian sports networks in English and French by category. We cannot promise any one game, because broadcast rights change from season to season. The fair test is to run the free 24-hour trial on a game night and check the game in the TV guide.

What is the cheapest IPTV plan for a University of Alberta student?

The 12-month plan at $78 CAD costs the least per month, about $6.50, and covers the whole school year plus summer. If you only need part of the year, the 6-month plan is $48. Roommates can share a 3-screen plan and split the cost. There are no discount codes: the listed prices are the same for everyone.

Does King IPTV have French channels for Edmonton francophones?

Yes. The Full Channels package includes groups for Quebec news, variety and téléromans, French-language sports and French kids' channels. Live Chat support is available in French every day from 9 a.m. to midnight Eastern, which is 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Edmonton. Pick Full Channels rather than English Channels Only when you order.

Is there a Ukrainian section in the channel list?

Ukrainian channels sit in the "Greek, Polish, Ukrainian and more European" group of the Full Channels package. Smaller language line-ups change more often than English ones, so search for the exact channel you follow during the free trial, or ask in Live Chat before paying, and we will tell you what is currently there.

Will IPTV work in my Edmonton basement suite?

Yes, if the suite has its own steady internet connection or a strong Wi-Fi signal. Basements often get weak Wi-Fi because concrete and ductwork block it, so a router inside the suite or a cable to the TV makes the biggest difference. Aim for about 10 Mbps per Full HD screen, then test with the free trial at night.

How do I pay for IPTV from Edmonton?

By Interac e-Transfer from your Canadian bank app, in CAD. Pick a plan, fill in your name and email, and the checkout shows the amount, the recipient email and an order number for the message field. Most logins arrive within 15 to 30 minutes during support hours. See how Interac payment works.
