How to Clear the Cache on a Firestick Without Losing Your Logins

A slow or full Fire TV Stick usually needs its cache cleared, not a reset. Here is how to clear one app or all of them, what each button erases, and how to keep your IPTV login safe.

Streaming stick plugged into the back of a television beside its remote

The button to be careful with sits right next to Clear cache. Clear data looks almost the same, but it resets the app to the day you installed it. In an IPTV player, that means the playlist, login and favourites are gone, and a 30-second fix turns into typing a login again on the remote.

The steps below work on every Fire TV Stick that runs Fire OS, on the Fire TV Cube and on Fire TV smart TVs. If your player is not installed yet, start with our Fire TV Stick IPTV setup guide and come back here when the stick slows down.

What does clearing the cache on a Fire TV Stick do?

Clearing the cache on a Fire TV Stick deletes the temporary files an app keeps so it loads faster: poster images, channel logos, thumbnails and bits of video fetched in advance. The app rebuilds these files as you use it. Your installed apps, accounts, settings and watch history stay where they are.

A cache grows a little every day an app runs. Most Fire TV Sticks have only 8 GB of storage, as the model table below shows, so a few busy apps can eat the free space. A nearly full stick slows down, freezes or refuses to install updates.

Amazon already does part of the job for you, though not for the apps you open every day, which are usually the heavy ones. Its help page on clearing Fire TV app data and cache says: “If an app is unused for more than 30 days and the device is running low on storage, the storage optimizing feature will automatically clear the app cache.”

How do you clear the cache for one app on a Firestick?

To clear the cache for one app on a Firestick, open Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications, choose the app and select Clear cache. The whole job takes under a minute. You do not need to close the app first, and you will not have to sign in again afterwards.

  1. Open Settings. Press Home on the remote, then select the gear icon at the right end of the menu.
  2. Find your apps. Select Applications, then Manage Installed Applications.
  3. Pick the app. Choose the one that misbehaves, for example TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro. Its screen shows the app size, the data and the cache.
  4. Clear the cache. Select Clear cache. The cache figure drops to zero or close to it.
  5. Open the app again. Press Home and launch it. Give the logos and guide a minute to redraw.

Frozen app? Select Force stop on the same screen before you clear the cache. If the cache shows only a few megabytes, the cache is probably not the cause, and the storage and restart checks below are a better bet.

How do you clear every app’s cache at once?

Clear all Application Caches is a one-click option that empties the cache of every app on a Fire TV at once. Open Settings, then Applications, and look just below Manage Installed Applications. A screen shows how much space the clean-up will free, then you select Confirm. Apps, logins and settings stay in place.

AFTVnews spotted the option in September 2025 on the Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max. Older models or older software may not show it. In that case, clear apps one by one, starting with those that show the largest cache.

Clear cache vs Clear data: what each action erases

Each button on a Fire TV removes a different amount. Use the gentlest one that fixes the problem, and move down the table only when it does not.

What each Fire TV action does to your apps and IPTV login
ActionWhat it removesYour IPTV loginWhen to use it
Clear cacheTemporary images, logos and pre-loaded videoStaysFirst step for a slow or glitchy app
RestartNothing; it empties the memoryStaysFreezes, or right after a cache clear
Clear dataEverything the app saved since installErased: type it againApp still crashes after a cache clear and a restart
UninstallThe app and all its dataErasedApps you never open, or a broken install
Factory resetEvery app, account and setting on the stickErasedLast resort, or before you sell the stick

Before you press Clear data in an IPTV player, find your welcome email or write down the server URL, username and password. TiviMate Premium can also save a backup under Settings > General, which brings back playlists and favourites in one step. Our Xtream Codes login guide explains each field if you need to type it again.

Setting up a cleaned stick from scratch is also a good moment to test a service at your usual viewing hours. The free 24-hour King IPTV trial gives you the full channel list with no payment, one per household.

How do you free up storage on a full Fire TV Stick?

Freeing storage on a full Fire TV Stick takes three moves: check what is left, uninstall apps you never open, and delete leftover install files. See the free space under Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage. Fire TV smart TVs use Device & Software in place of My Fire TV.

Internal storage by Fire TV model (Amazon developer specifications, October 2026)
ModelSystemStorage
Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023)Fire OS 816 GB
Fire TV Stick 4K (2023)Fire OS 88 GB
Fire TV Stick HD (2024)Fire OS 78 GB
Fire TV Stick LiteFire OS 78 GB
Fire TV Cube (3rd gen, 2022)Fire OS 716 GB
Fire TV Stick 4K Select, HD (2026), 4K (3rd gen, 2026)Vega OS8 GB

The sizes come from Amazon’s Fire TV device specifications. The system itself takes part of that space, so an 8 GB stick has much less room for apps than the label suggests.

  • Uninstall what you never open. In Manage Installed Applications, pick the app and select Uninstall. Appstore apps can be reinstalled for free at any time.
  • Delete leftover install files. Open Downloader, go to its Files tab and delete old .apk files. Each one stays on the stick until you remove it.
  • Keep one IPTV player. Two players each store their own playlist, guide and logos, which doubles the space used.

When should you restart or reset a Fire TV Stick instead?

A restart is the right next step when a Fire TV Stick still freezes after you clear the cache. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Restart, or hold Select and Play/Pause together for about 5 seconds. A restart empties the memory without touching apps, logins or settings, so it is always safe to try.

If the screen is frozen solid and the remote does nothing, unplug the power cord, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in. Amazon gives the same advice for a stuck Fire TV.

A factory reset is the last resort. Use Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults, or hold Back and the right side of the navigation ring for 10 seconds.

Still frozen after a restart, or your player refuses the login after Clear data? King IPTV Live Chat helps with players and logins every day from 9 a.m. to midnight Eastern.

Clearing the cache in IPTV apps: what to expect

IPTV players such as TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro often build large caches, because they keep logos, posters and guide images for thousands of channels. In most players the playlist and login live in the app’s data, so a cache clear keeps them. Expect logos and guide pictures to take a minute to reload.

If the guide still shows old programmes after a cache clear, the cache was not the cause. Run an EPG update inside the player, then follow our guide to a blank or wrong IPTV TV guide.

Buffering is usually a network problem, not a cache problem. A cache clear helps a stick that is short on space, but evening buffering needs the Wi-Fi and speed checks in our IPTV buffering checklist.

Does this work on Vega OS Fire TV Sticks?

Vega OS Fire TV Sticks look the same as Fire OS models in Settings, so the Applications menu and Clear cache button should be where this guide says. Labels can shift after an update, so check Amazon’s help page if one differs. Vega runs on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, the 2026 HD stick and the 3rd-gen 4K stick.

The bigger difference is for IPTV. Vega installs Appstore apps only, so sideloaded players such as TiviMate cannot be added, and we found no full Xtream Codes player in the Vega Appstore as of October 2026. If a Vega stick is your only TV device and you plan to keep it, King IPTV is not the right fit for that screen today. A Fire OS stick such as the 4K Max, or a Google TV device, runs every common player.

Reader questions

Does clearing the cache on a Firestick delete my apps?

No. Clearing the cache on a Firestick removes only temporary files such as images, logos and pre-loaded video. Your apps, accounts, logins and settings stay in place. The buttons that do remove things are Clear data, which resets one app, and Uninstall, which removes it. A factory reset removes every app and account on the stick.

How often should you clear the cache on a Firestick?

Clear the cache on a Firestick when an app turns slow or glitchy, or when a low storage warning appears. Once a month is plenty for a busy stick with several streaming apps. Clearing more often brings no benefit, because apps rebuild the cache as you use them, and Amazon already clears the cache of apps unused for 30 days when space runs low.

Why is my Firestick still slow after clearing the cache?

A Firestick that stays slow after a cache clear usually has another cause: too little free storage, a weak Wi-Fi signal, or old software. Restart it, uninstall apps you never open, then check for updates under Settings > My Fire TV > About. If live channels buffer in the evening, the network is the likely cause, and our IPTV buffering checklist covers it step by step.

Will clearing the cache log me out of my IPTV app?

No. Clearing the cache in TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro or another player keeps your playlist and login, because those are saved in the app’s data. The channel logos and guide images reload within a minute or so. Clear data is the option that logs you out, so keep your welcome email or written login nearby before you ever press it.

Does King IPTV work on a Fire TV Stick?

Yes, on Fire TV Sticks that run Fire OS, such as the 4K Max, the 2023 4K, the 2024 HD and every Fire TV Cube. You add the Xtream Codes login we email you to TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro. Vega OS sticks cannot install those players. A free 24-hour trial lets you test your stick first.
